Sure, you could just run ] instead of the Tarn, but now there's a nonzero chance of your opening hand having lands that will only enter the battlefield tapped. (For EDH, you'd get effectively two Steam Vents).
But adding four Scalding Tarns effectively makes that eight copies. In 60 card formats, you can only have four copies of Steam Vents.
